UK Coast FIRE Insights
Key things to understand about Coast FIRE in the UK context.
Which Pots Count
Include your workplace pension (DC), SIPP, Stocks & Shares ISA, and Lifetime ISA. Cash savings and your home only count if you plan to invest them. The State Pension is guaranteed income — subtract it from your spending instead.
Access Ages Matter
You can access your private pension from 57 (rising from 55 in 2028). The State Pension starts at 67. Your ISA has no minimum age — it's your bridge to retirement. Plan your gap years carefully.
Real Return Assumptions
UK equities and gilts have historically averaged 5-6% real return. Our default of 6% expected return with 3% inflation gives a real return of about 2.9%. You can adjust these in the calculator above.
Triple Lock Protection
The State Pension rises each year by the highest of: average earnings growth, inflation (CPI), or 2.5%. This means its purchasing power is protected — a unique advantage for UK retirees.
